Values Command

Home UIQ3 Manager Card View Values Command

Entering text comfortably on small devices like smartphones must be one of the great unsolved problems in this realm. That's why its a good idea to limit text entry to the really necessary.

MoStacks tries to achieve this with the Values command available for fields. The basic idea is this: There is a certain probability that the text (or at least part of it) that you want to enter right now, on the field that has focus, is already available somewhere "nearby", and all you need is a mechanism to copy it from there easily.

"Nearby" can mean that you create several cards in a row, and several cards have identical (or very similar) values on some of the fields. Something like a field value history and a copy mechanism from there would allow easy value entry in this case.

"Nearby" can also mean values from the card immediately before or after the card that you edit (which exist already longtime, so that a field value history may not apply.)

The Values command collects various such values (details see below) and presents them in a popup menu. Selecting a menu entry i.e. a value sets the current field to that value. This command is available in the Card value. As a faster shortcut, you can also tap the label of a field to issue this command. The screenshot on the right was taken after tapping the label Curr. Code in the situation that the left screenshot shows:

The values are from the following 4 groups, from top to bottom:

Sometimes it is hard to see exactly which value came from which field on which card, but mostly this should not matter because you will see after a quick glance whether the value that you want is listed or not.
